Equalities and Diversity

Equalities and Diversity

We are committed to keeping our customers and residents centre stage by respecting and valuing their diversity, supporting and developing communities and training and supporting our staff so they can work as effectively and efficiently as possible.

Our equality and diversity principles

• Flexible
Making sure our services and processes are flexible enough to meet the
different needs of our residents.
• Accessible
Making sure our services, our communications and our workplaces are as
accessible as possible.
• Inclusive
Making sure that we remove barriers that prevent our residents and staff
contributing as fully as they want.
• Responsible
Making sure that we meet our legal and regulatory duties, both in
service delivery and employment

Our tenants are an integral part of the TMO; we exist to provide them with the best housing management service possible. We understand that our residents are a diverse group of individuals, with individual needs and preferences; only by effectively involving and listening to them can we achieve our aim of providing the housing service that they want and deserve. Kensington and Chelsea is a diverse borough and our residents reflect this.

Our staff are our best asset to achieving our aims. We understand that a diverse group of staff will help us better understand the diverse needs of our residents. We acknowledge that many of our staff live in and around Kensington and Chelsea and that many are also our residents. We will support, train and develop our staff so that they feel confident in their abilities. By working for a diverse group of residents we will make the best use of this vital resource.

We understand the importance in embracing equality and diversity working practices in developing new and improved ways of working and improving service delivery. We understand the importance of the various diverse communities to our residents, and we understand that supporting these communities will bring benefits to all our residents by improving community cohesion.

The Equality Act 2010 simplifies and rationalises over 40 years of equalities legislation into one act. It places particular requirements on public sector bodies and service providers as well as on landlords. The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, who are the landlord on the properties we manage, has a duty to eliminate discrimination, advance equality of opportunity and foster good relations. This duty extends to us as we provide a public function.

We acknowledge that by ensuring equality and diversity is considered strategically we will be better placed to ensure that it is considered at every stage of our work. Our monitoring and evaluation processes will ensure that the work is effective and that we continue to learn from our experiences.

The KCTMO Board has agreed the new Equality and Diversity Strategy, which can be found here, but if you would like further information about our approach to equalities and our Equalities Policy, please contact KCTMO's Equalities Officer via Equalities.
