New OCS contract is greener and smarter

Today we launched our Greener & Smarter campaign at Henry Dickens Court Community Centre. This marks the award of a new communal cleaning contract to OCS Ltd.

The contract is overseen by our Environmental Services Team, which monitors the work carried out by OCS and deals with the day-to-day running of the contract. The cleaning service is provided at 153 sites throughout the borough.

There have been technological and environmental advances in the cleaning sector and these are reflected in the new contract.

Greener living

Over the last 10 years the overall understanding of waste disposal and the need to increase the amount of waste recycled has improved drastically. We'll be working with OCS to increase the availability of recycling facilities on our estates and reduce the amount of waste sent to landfill. We also expect OCS to reduce its impact on the environment by selecting more environmentally friendly products, for example. These aspects will be monitored throughout the duration of the contract.

New schedules

New schedules have been produced for all sites in the borough and are displayed on estate noticeboards. The schedules contain changes for some blocks, including the cleaning of certain communal walkways.

London Living Wage

One major change is that this is the TMO's first long-term contract which states that the contractor must pay its staff the London Living Wage. We'll be monitoring this commitment to ensure cleaning staff are being paid correctly.
