Moving Home?
All applications for social housing (this includes council housing as well as housing run by registered social landlords) need to be made via the Kensington and Chelsea Common Housing Register (CHR). For more information visit RBKC's website
Although the council assesses an application for a transfer, assistance for completing an application is available from your neighbourhood officer. Completed applications should be sent to the council’s housing needs department at the Town Hall, Horton Street, London W8 7NX or hand delivered to the Town Hall reception.
For welfare transfers, welfare points can be awarded in certain urgent circumstances if you, or a member of your household is at serious risk of harm. In these circumstances you must contact your neighbourhood officer who will complete a welfare application on your behalf and forward it to the housing needs department at the council for assessment. The result of the assessment will be sent to your neighbourhood officer who will inform you of the outcome.
Since January 2009, the TMO has adopted introductory tenancies for all new tenants. Introductory tenancies are already used by many housing organisations to make sure new tenants pay the rent and respect the community.
They are much easier to end than ordinary (secure) tenancies and will mean that TMO can act quickly if a new tenant persistently breaks the rules. The introductory period will usually last for twelve months, after which the tenancy will become secure.
Introductory tenancies will not apply to tenants transferring within the TMO or to mutual exchanges. The change does not affect existing tenants.
